Android and iOS: back up before changing phones
Check photos, contacts, application data, and sign-in access before you erase or trade in the device that still holds your originals.
Read the 6-minute guideVerify coverage before the phone changes.
An Android device backup can help with migration, but app-level coverage varies. Google’s documentation states that not all apps can back up or restore all settings and data. Inventory local information and account access before the old device is unavailable, and check the destination’s compatibility with the chosen recovery route.
Inspect the backup settings on the source device and review separate transfer requirements for important apps. Keep a permitted independent export of unique local information. Use the application’s documented migration method rather than assuming reinstalling it recreates its data.
Open representative records on the replacement phone and test important account access. Compare contact fields and inspect full media files, not only thumbnails. Preserve the original until the tasks you rely on have passed their checks.
Do not assume so. Review each critical app’s supported backup or transfer route and test its real content after migration. A reinstalled icon alone is not evidence that the application’s records were restored.
