Build a backup plan you can actually restore
Turn a folder of copies into a recovery plan: define your risks, choose independent destinations, and practice a small restore drill.
Read the 6-minute guideDesign for access after account loss.
Cloud backup planning is about recoverable history and account boundaries, not just remote storage. Choose a destination you can reach during the incidents you are preparing for. Decide how versions are kept, how sensitive data is protected, and who can retrieve a copy without the source device.
Map which account can read, write, and delete each copy. Choose a retention window based on how long damage may remain unnoticed. Measure a representative capture and restore before estimating storage growth or deciding whether the workflow fits your needs.
Restore from another authorized environment without using the source device’s cached access. Retrieve an older item as well as a recent one, decrypt it through the approved route, and open the result with its normal application.
It can create a useful boundary, but inspect administrators, credentials, automated deletion, and recovery methods. Explain which incident the extra account addresses, then test access when the original account is unavailable.
