Cloud sync vs backup: understand the difference
Inspect what synchronizes, what history survives, and whether another copy remains available when a device or account is lost.
Read the 6-minute guideKnow which Dropbox feature is doing the job.
Dropbox synchronization and Dropbox Backup should be evaluated as distinct workflows. Identify which feature your account uses, which folders it covers, and how recovery works in that configuration. A second synchronized view can be convenient without necessarily meeting your desired history or account-loss recovery target.
Review the current Dropbox Backup overview and your account’s available settings. Trial a small, disposable folder first. Make its originals available to the intended capture method, then inspect how changes and deletion affect both the source and the recovery destination.
Restore a known earlier state through the documented feature you enabled. Open the file outside the active synchronized folder when possible. Check account access from another authorized environment and document any missing coverage.
That depends on the losses you need to survive. Test historical recovery and consider a separate destination for account loss or propagated changes. Give each additional copy a distinct recovery purpose.
